Michele Melillo

Contemporary Mythologies, Reimagined

A European figurative painter reshaping cultural icons through bold, playful, and reimagined images

Michele Melillo’s work moves between art history, popular culture, and personal imagination. Cowboys, heroines, and fragmented faces emerge as shifting symbols that are at once familiar and strangely new.

His paintings are not illustrations of stories, but reconstructions of them. Each work distills identity, memory, and myth into a visual language that is immediate, layered, and humorous.

“I am interested in how images carry meaning across history and cultures, and how they shift, distort, and survive over time.
Painting allows me to take shared references and rebuild them into something personal, layered, and alive.”

Melillo paints in patterns of Asian origin into many of his paintings. The strokes are quick and direct expressing a kind of autism, meditation and reappearance in his practice.
